Step into the expressive world of Willem de Kooning in this acrylic painting workshop guided by Carlo Tozzi, founder and art curator of st-Art.

In this session, you’ll discover de Kooning’s expressive approach to painting, exploring his bold use of colour, energetic brushwork, abstraction, and the relationship between gesture and figurative forms. Working with acrylics, you’ll create your own painting inspired by de Kooning’s artistic language, experimenting with spontaneity, movement, layering, and composition.

The workshop takes place while Willem de Kooning: Willem at Work, a temporary exhibition at the Rijksmuseum, is on view, offering a unique opportunity to explore the artist’s work through both art history and hands-on practice.

Participants of Saturday’s workshop are warmly invited to join Carlo and the st-Art team for a visit to the exhibition on Sunday. It’s the perfect opportunity to see de Kooning’s work first-hand and connect what you experienced and learned during the workshop with the artist’s original works. The museum visit will complement the workshop by giving you a deeper understanding of de Kooning’s ideas, techniques, artistic process, and context.

Please note: The museum visit is optional and must be booked separately by each participant. You can purchase a museum ticket or use your Museumkaart. The exact meeting time will be announced soon.
