Natalie Bell

Natalie is a multidisciplinary artist based in Amsterdam, known for her emotionally charged mixed-media works that explore the fragile and fluid nature of the human experience. Her practice bridges abstract expressionism, psychology, healing arts, and sensory exploration, resulting in immersive compositions that invite deep introspection.
With a background in linguistics, music, and visual arts, she approaches creativity as a language of the soul - using texture, movement, and instinctive mark-making to give form to what often goes unspoken. Her work traverses themes of transformation, vulnerability, and resilience, drawing from her own journey of personal rebirth and emotional healing.

Currently a participant in the prestigious St-Art Amsterdam Mentorship Program, she is expanding her practice through intentional storytelling, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and community-based healing experiences. Her art is not only visual but visceral - a meditative space where pain becomes beauty, and brokenness becomes strength.
Her latest body of work, "Flux – The Human Condition," is a raw, intimate collection that charts the journey from darkness to light. Through sculpted surfaces, luminous pigments, and symbolic fragmentation, she translates inner emotional states into dynamic visual narratives that speak to universal cycles of collapse and renewal.
Each piece within the collection - from the fractured textures of "Fractured", the kinetic energy of "Ignite", the layered softness of "Emergence", to the ethereal serenity of "Horizons" - is a chapter in a larger story: one of letting go, reclaiming power, and finding wholeness in the wake of upheaval.

By blending contemporary abstraction with intuitive process and spiritual symbolism, her work acts as a bridge between art and healing - encouraging viewers to pause, reflect, and reconnect with their own emotional truths.

Fractured
€330.00

Fractured reflects the emotional journey from despair to self-awareness. The piece captures the experience of feeling broken when life becomes overwhelming, but also the understanding that even in moments of fracture, there is space for growth and healing. It symbolizes how life's challenges can shatter us, but through those cracks, we begin to rebuild, finding resilience in vulnerability.

Fractured is a reflection of the beauty and complexity of brokenness - how cracks, rather than being flaws, can become pathways to something deeper, more raw, and more real. It speaks to the moments when we feel shattered, yet still hold onto the light that remains beneath the surface. The neon green fractures, exposed through deliberate breakage, symbolize the life, energy, and resilience that persist despite hardship. The textured, fragmented surface captures the weight of emotional and personal fractures - the parts of ourselves that have been strained, tested, or torn apart. To create Fractured, I began by painting the canvas in a vibrant neon green, establishing a striking base layer. Next, I applied a thin mixture of modeling paste and wall plaster, forming a hardened surface over the neon background.

Once the layer set, I intentionally cracked it, allowing intricate fractures to emerge, revealing glimpses of the neon green beneath. To deepen the texture and enhance the feeling of raw fragmentation, I carefully attached broken, fragmented pieces, constructing a rough, uneven landscape. This layering effect intensified the visual and tactile contrast, mirroring the emotion of brokenness and resilience that inspired the piece. Yet, within this brokenness, Fractured reveals a quiet strength. The cracks expose not emptiness, but vibrancy, as if to say that even in destruction, there is renewal. The tension between the structured, textured surface and the chaotic, glowing energy beneath mirrors the duality of vulnerability and resilience - reminding us that what is broken is not necessarily lost, but transformed.

Horizons
€350.00

Horizons is about the balance between struggle and peace, and the journey toward new beginnings. It represents the quiet yet powerful process of moving from darkness into light, where we expand our perspective and find clarity beyond the immediate challenges. Horizons captures the idea that, while the present may seem difficult, there’s always something brighter and more peaceful on the horizon, a reminder that perseverance and endurance leads to growth and that hope always lies ahead.

Horizons is inspired by angelic visions with delicate interplay of gold, grey and white, aiming to create a serene and expansive composition. This piece represents active healing. I began by using thin layers of glazing medium to soften transitions and create an ethereal quality, mimicking the atmosphere from my vision of heavenly skies. Using newspaper, a palette knife and brushes, I created different textures. I then applied soft transitions of grey and white, blending them wet-on-wet to create smooth gradients and subtle ridges.

The final touches of gold paint accents were added sparingly through dry-brushing, carefully blending them into the central shape that sweeps across the canvas to evoke warmth without overwhelming the composition. The result is a minimalist yet rich canvas that captures the feeling of open horizons and tranquil elegance – the message of hope and elation through the complex journey from dark to light.

Ignite
€400.00

Ignite is about navigating the chaos that emerges after disintegration. It reflects the overwhelming turmoil that follows such moments, when everything feels scattered and uncertain. Yet within that chaos, there is the potential to reignite a spark of hope and direction. The piece embodies the process of piecing things back together, finding clarity, and ultimately rediscovering a sense of purpose amid the confusion

The artistic process for Ignite begins with a focus on capturing vibrant energy through dynamic color and movement. I started by laying down broad strokes of yellow, blue, and green, creating a joyful, playful foundation. Using acrylics and spray paints, I built up layers of soft and hard edges, letting the colors blend naturally. The addition of black acrylic paints and graffiti-like elements, along with flowing lines and splashes of vibrant pink paint, introduce a sense of spontaneity. I incorporated drips, words, and splatters to emphasize movement, while organic shapes and circles provide structure amid the chaos. There is a hidden message embedded within the layers of this piece - one that ties into its title.

Just as fire has the power to consume, it also has the ability to clear the way for transformation. "Love is a choice" is woven into the composition, reinforcing the idea that in the aftermath of destruction, we have the power to rebuild with intention. Love, like fire, can be an unpredictable force, but when chosen, it fuels growth, resilience, and renewal. As the layers evolved, I used stencils and geometric patterns to bring depth and texture, all while allowing the paint to interact freely across the canvas. The result is an energetic composition that feels alive with color, texture, and a raw yet intentional flow - mirroring the dual nature of fire and love as forces of both destruction and rebirth.

Emergence
€250.00

Emergence is about the transformative power of struggle and growth. It symbolizes the process of rising from hidden depths, where moments of darkness and uncertainty slowly give way to light and clarity. The piece reflects the idea that, through challenges and adversity, we begin to emerge into a stronger, more self-aware version of ourselves. It highlights the beauty in evolution, where even from difficult beginnings, we can rise toward hope and renewal.

Emergence is a response to the healing process beginning a visual representation of transition, renewal, and the quiet strength found in transformation. The darkness remains at the bottom of the canvas, while the light takes precedence, symbolizing the shift from struggle to clarity. The intention is to evoke a sense of unfolding or revealing the feeling of rising from beneath the surface, stepping into something new. The textured base, created with modeling paste and wall plaster, mirrors the contrasts of life the roughness of hardship and the smoothness of healing. Layers of teal, muted blues, greys, and soft greens were applied in fluid motions, allowing the colors to blend organically, capturing the natural ebb and flow of change.

The gold leaf metallic accents act as glimpses of light breaking through, embodying resilience and the emergence of hope. The organic forms carved with a palette knife reflect the movement of water and clouds - symbols of fluidity, adaptability, and growth. At its core, Emergence is about stepping forward, embracing the unknown, and allowing light to take its place where darkness once resided. The composition, while refined and balanced, retains its sense of motion - a reminder that healing is not a static state but an ever-evolving process of becoming.
