The Art of Collage: Layer, Cut & Create
Join us for an immersive collage workshop exploring the art of handmade and digital collage, guided by Berti of Cutology. This practice draws on old magazines, books, personal photographs, and hand-cut scraps — recycling overlooked materials into new meaning.
Using simple tools like scalpels, paper cutters, and rotary blades, participants will cut abstract, intuitive shapes in a meditative, unplanned process. A signature technique explored in this session is layering — adhering pieces so sections can be lifted to reveal what lies beneath, creating an interactive, perspective-shifting artwork rather than a single flat image.
Alternatively, participants willing to practice patience and gentle, precise hand movements with a scalpel may choose to cut outlined figures and shapes instead. Participants are encouraged to bring their own materials — objects, photographs, or ephemera — that hold personal meaning for them
All materials are provided — though you’re welcome to bring your own photographs, magazines, papers, or meaningful objects to incorporate into your artwork. Drinks and treats are included!
This workshop is suitable for all levels and is perfect for anyone curious about exploring collage as a creative practice. Whether you’re new to collage or looking to expand your artistic approach, you’ll experiment with cutting, layering, and composition in a relaxed and inspiring environment.
